KATP channels function as negative regulators of active lymphatic pumping and lymph
transport. This review summarizes and critiques the evidence for the expression of specific
KATP channel subunits in lymphatic smooth muscle and endothelium, the roles that they
play in normal lymphatic function, and their possible involvement in multiple diseases,
including metabolic syndrome, lymphedema, and Cantú syndrome. For each of these topics,
suggestions are made for directions for future research.
