Adherens junctions are composed of a cadherin–catenin complex and its associated
proteins. Recently, an increasing number of novel members of adherens junctions, including
membrane and PDZ proteins, have been reported. Interactions among these components in
adherens junctions seem to be dynamically regulated during the formation of adherens
junction complexes in epithelial cells.
